Mourning needs efficiency too?
It was only a week ago that the nation honoured Sri Lanka’s
valiant security forces who laid down their lives for the nation.
That was through the annual ceremony organized by the Government’s
Ranaviru Seva Authority at the memorial in Mailapitiya near Kandy.
But on Friday, the Authority top brass had arranged
a residential all-expenses paid seminar on Efficiency Enhancement
at a government building in Meepe. There were no lectures or discussions.
The day began with football and volleyball matches. It ended up
with a ‘peduru party’ where liquor flowed freely. It
went on till late.
The Kebithigollewa massacre which plunged the
nation in grief with mass funerals on Friday did not deter those
in the authority who are meant to care for the dead troops. They
had their fun.
SL workers in M’sia get beauty peep,
party in the dark
A former beauty queen turned diplomat turned politician took wing
to Malaysia last week in the company of a UNP Parliamentarian, apparently
to look into the problems of Sri Lankan workers in that country.
Party members who were in the dark about this
visit have expressed concern about it, questioning whether the party
shouldn’t be informed of such matters.
Can’t scan in bulk
A somewhat bulky Cabinet Minister was advised to get a CT scan done
and so he visited a hospital in Colombo. But the doctor who had
to conduct the test was in a dilemma.
The problem was that the circumference of the
scan machine was not sufficient for the entire body of the Minister
in question to go through. The end result was the person in question
having to visit Singapore to get the test done.
