Old Zahirians
manacle Police
By Bernie Wijesekera
Old Zahirians ran circles round Police SC in a
rousing Caltex A Division Inter-Club A Division rugby game at Police
Park yesterday to win by 26 points (2 goals,4 tries) to 15 (3 tries).
Police led 15-3 at the breather.
In an unbelievable display, Old Zahirians jostled
the Policemen in the second half with center Anis banging in two
tries of which two were converted by the link-man Cuncheer. The
latter was in fine form with his kicking boots contributing 14 points
with his spot on kicks, which had a telling factor in the Old Zahirians
victory.
This is Old Zahira’s third win in the competition.
Earlier they recorded wins over Galle RFC and Jawatte Lions. This
win is a terrific boost for the struggling Old Zahiriuans and is
their first ever victory over Police. Police after leading 15-13
at the breather lost their rhythm when the OldZahirians back division
took control.
The tries for Police were scored by C. Fonseka,
Chaminda Silva and skipper Prasad Wilson. - Referee: Rankothge.
