ICTA to commission survey on IT industry training needs

The ICT Capacity Building Programme (ICBP), will commission a survey to ascertain and analyse the training needs of the ICT industry, making training more focused in the future.

ICBP is a $5.3 million fund set up by the Information and Communications Technology Agency (ICTA) of Sri Lanka, to pursue several strategic initiatives that aim to provide a boost to the ICT industry, including small and medium enterprises (SME’s) and training institutions, the ICT Agency said.

The programme will focus on three key areas namely ICT, Industry Promotion and Development, creation of an enabling environment for industry growth and Human Resource Development (HRD). In the HRD area, ICBP will provide training grants for those working in domestic IT companies to improve their skills in specific demand areas of technology and management.

The role of the survey will be to determine these areas of need. For example, project management is a course that many larger IT firms train their staff on already, but smaller firms are unable to afford such specialised training.

ICBP hopes to fund this type of training so that those working in smaller firms can also be trained to the same high professional standards and effectively contribute to the industry as a whole.
