Inaction
over alleged assault, say victim’s mates
Professionals have expressed concern over the inaction
on an alleged assault of an engineer and director of the Sri Lanka
Land Reclamation and Development Corporation (SLLRDC) by a senior
official there.
A group of professionals have complained that
a senior SLLRDC official had allegedly assaulted their colleague
engineer Tissa de Alwis last April but so far no action has been
taken against the official.
They claimed that the Institution of Engineers,
Sri Lanka has protested to the Minister concerned Dinesh Gunawardena
over the assault and that Mr. de Alwis, who is also a SLLRDC director,
lodged a complaint with the police. But however no action has been
taken to date.
They also said they wrote to Presidential Secretary
Lalith Weeratunga urging action against the relevant official and
he had responded saying that an inquiry will be made and action
pursued.
Mr. de Alwis has been allegedly assaulted by the
official over a disagreement he had with the latter at a SLLRDC
board meeting.
The victim has claimed that he complained regarding
the incident to Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and SLLRDC Chairman
Somaweera Chandrasiri.
However, Mr. Chandrasiri told The Sunday Times
that he had not been informed about such an assault.
