SriLankan boosts passenger
traffic to Singapore
SriLankan Airlines
was among the top five airlines that came up trumps in the inaugural
‘Changi Airline Awards’, for the highest growth in passenger
numbers into Singapore in 2005.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS),
awards recognised the strong partnership between the Authority and
over 80 airlines operating to Changi Airport. The award also included
a cash grant for Singapore dollars 474,805.25 under CAAS’s
Growth Inventive scheme for 2005, SriLankan said in a statement.
“It is a tribute highlighting the overall growth of the airline
over the year and we are keen to sustain the momentum across our
network in 2006,” said SriLankan Airlines CEO, Peter Hill.
SriLankan operates 16 flights a week into Singapore
with daily direct services from Colombo, five weekly connections
via Kula Lumpur and four code share services. “We get a lot
of Singaporeans visiting Sri Lanka and India during the holidays.
On the reverse, we have a regular flow of Sri Lankans and Indians
coming to Singapore for business and leisure,” said SriLankan
Airlines Manager, Singapore Ranil Wagiswara.
