Long distance job
A regional accountant of the Ruhunu Bus Company seems to be taking
his job very far. He travels everyday from his home in Kolonnawa
to Galle in an official jeep when he is only entitled to fuel supplies
to travel 20 kilometres from his home to work. Instructions by Transport
Minister A.H.M.Fowzie to stop this long distance travel have fallen
on deaf ears. It would be cheaper if the Ministry provided him an
official residence in Galle because despite the ever-increasing
fuel prices, the man is unlikely to stop his long distance travel
to work.
Govt. issued ID not valid?
A scribe and photographer who were on an official assignment in
Colombo Fort had a rather unpleasant experience when they were asked
to produce their identification cards. The two presented their IDs
issued by the Information Department which is the official media
accreditation given to all media personnel in the country but for
the security men, this was unacceptable. They rejected it saying
it was issued by the newspaper office they worked for and demanded
the NIC. It took a lot of persuasion to get the men to accept it
as a Government issued ID, which is used by journalists in the course
of carrying out their official work. It’s time that Police
and security personnel on duty were made aware that the media accreditation
card is a valid form of ID for media men, issued by the Government
so that journalists can do their work unhindered.
Computer errors
When a lawyer who filed the fundamental rights petition challenging
the appointment of former Navy Commander Daya Sandagiri to the Defence
Ministry submitted his petition to the Supreme Court Bench, Chief
Justice Sarath N.Silva noted an error in the numbering, which the
lawyer attributed to a computer error.
It wasn’t long before the Chief Justice
noted another where ‘career’ has been spelt as ‘carrier.’
It seemed the lawyer’s computer appeared to be making many
errors.
