Daylight heist at Maradana petrol shed In a daring daylight heist in Maradana yesterday, two unidentified persons had removed Rs. 490,000 cash after threatening a petrol shed owner at gunpoint.
The petrol shed owner Uditha Senaratne told The Sunday Times that when he was counting the money in his office opposite Ananda College in Maradana around 11.10 am, two persons had entered and grabbed the money bag and fled. He said he had given chase but that the two had fled in two three-wheelers. However Mr. Senaratne said he was able to note down the number of one of the three wheelers which was green in colour. He claimed that the previous day’s collection was more than usual due to the fuel shortages in other sheds. Maradana Police said they have identified one of the three wheelers involved as being from the Pannipitiya area. Police are conducting further investigations.
