Night and Good Luck’ American Centre
George Clooney's second directorial venture 'Good
Night, and Good Luck' depicting a real-life conflict between television
newsman and a Senator screens at 6.30 pm on July 5, Wednesday at
American Centre Colombo, Galle Road, Colombo-3.
Written by George Clooney and Grant Heslov the
film stars David Strathairn, , Robert Downey Jr., Patricia Clarkson,
Frank Langella, Jeff Daniels, Tate Donovan and George Clooney himself.
Good Night, and Good Luck. takes place during
the early days of broadcast journalism in the 1950s. Edward R. Murrow,
and his dedicated staff-headed by his co-producer Fred Friendly
and reporter Joseph Wershba in the CBS newsroom- defy corporate
and sponsorship pressures, and discredit the tactics used by McCarthy
during his crusade to root out communist elements within the government.
Murrow first defends Milo Radulovich, who was discharged from the
U.S. Air Force because his father subscribed to a Serbian newspaper.
A very public feud develops when the Senator responds by accusing
the anchor of being a communist. Murrow is accused of having been
a Wobbly.
George Clooney an experienced actor and producer,
directing this is his second attempt at directing a feature film,
following 2002's 'Confessions of a Dangerous Mind' and his first
written screenplay to go into production. George (with co-writer
Grant Heslov) won the Venice Film Festival's 'best screenplay' award.
The film was nominated for Best Motion Picture
of the Year, Best Achievement in Directing, George Clooney, Best
Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, David Strathairn and
Best Original Screenplay at 2006 Academy Awards and Golden Globe
Award- 2006.
