Sports Science
Education part of Trinity curriculum
In another first by Trinity College, they have
introduced Sports Science / physical education as a subject to the
school curriculum a brainchild of Brig. Japana Jayawardene, former
Trinity ‘Lion’. He presented a paper on the above on
July 11, ’03. The Board of Governors of Trinity approved it
in 2004. It has become a reality after a long wait. Sports Science/Physical
education is gaining professional recognition locally and internationally.
It is time that Sri Lanka too looks into the future development
of sports as a profession. Few years back computer, Hotel Trade,
Garment Trade, was not recognized professionally. Within a few years
it has passed beyond expectation.
This discipline has been accepted by the Trinity
College hierarchy in their curriculum on the same basis of teaching
science, engineering, agriculture, bio science computer etc.
It was launched on July 4, at Trinity by the principal
of Trinity Rod Gilbert.
