Qatar staff to get Colombo training on biotech issues
Serendib Horticulture Technologies, a Sri Lankan
company, on Friday signed an MOU with the Agricultural Biotechnology
Center of the University
of Peradeniya for the purpose of conducting courses in Biotechnology
for research staff at a Qatar facility.
Serendib has been selected to conduct a feasibility
study to set up a Regional Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology
in Doha, Qatar. This project which was finalized by the Ministry
of Agriculture and Water Research in Doha is awaiting final approval
from the funding agency, the Islamic Development Bank, the company
said in a statement.
The Agricultural Biotechnology Center of the University
of Peradeniya will conduct courses in Biotechnology for the Research
Personnel in Qatar at the request of the Ministry of Agriculture,
in Doha, Qatar as part of the capacity Building exercise of the
overall project, it said.
