The mother of the kidnapped policeman - who entered an LTTE-controlled area in the Mannar District to arrest a suspected British paedophile - has appealed to LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran, to release her son.

“Mr Prabhakaran, My son went to save children from being molested by foreigners. He is innocent, therefore please release him,” is the appeal made by his 71-year old mother.

She said that in response to the humanitarian gesture shown by the Government in allowing the LTTE’s media co-ordinator Daya Master to enter a hospital in Colombo, the LTTE should reciprocate the gesture and release her son.

“Our Government was kind enough to get Daya Master to Colombo for treatment. In view of that let my son be released,” she said.

It is over 10 months now since the policeman has been in LTTE custody after attending as many as 11 sittings of the LTTE ‘court’.

The policeman, P.B.W. Bandujeewa Weerasinghe had entered an LTTE-controlled area in Murunkan with the intention of arresting a suspected British paedophile.

He is a father of one and due to his absence his wife is said to be sick. Two other policemen who were also arrested by the LTTE have been released.
