By Shamseer Jaleel
What a spectacular 60 minutes of schools rugby
it was. All the fans rocked at the Bogambara Stadium in Kandy last
Saturday were not disappointed as they got their money and time’s
worth when the two oldest rugby playing schools met each other.
Trinity College who are celebrating 100 years of rugby in 2006 and
the lads from Randles Hill Kingswood College taking on for the first
time in many years. In the end the difference between the two sides
was the Kingswood fly half Dev Anand who contributed not less than
11 points of the Kingswoodians tally of 16. He was not only on target
in a try conversation, one penalty but also with two neat drop goals.
One of them was nearly 45 meters mid right. The “lions”
who replied with two unconverted tries badly lacked a place kicker.
Even a try scored under the posts and an easy penalty went unconverted.
Winning start for Pathana
Isipathana College under the able guidance by
former national player Hisham Abdeen recorded their first win in
a friendly encounter when they outclassed the Katugastota Antonians
22-8 at Nittawela. At the breather, Pathana led 17-3. Pathana who
played attacking rugby in the initial half had to be contended with
only a solitary try in the second half. The winners scored through

try. This year is a vital one for the Antonians as they are celebrating
