Tendulkar
to undergo fitness test
India batting star Sachin Tendulkar will undergo
a fitness check next Wednesday to determine whether he is fit to
return to international cricket.
"The fitness test will be conducted a day
before the team is chosen for the tri-series in Sri Lanka,"
India board secretary Niranjan Shah told the BBC.
Tendulkar has not played for India since undergoing
shoulder surgery.
But he was in prolific form during a recent spell
playing club cricket in England, making three centuries.
The 33-year-old also appeared for a Rest of the
World XI against Pakistan in a Twenty20 charity match at The Oval
earlier this week, scoring 50 not out.
The one-day series in Sri Lanka, also involving
South Africa, begins on 14 August and the final will take place
on the 29th.
It comes at the start of a busy winter for India,
who will host the ICC Champions Trophy in October and November before
undertaking a tour to South Africa.
After that they are due to take part in another
tri-series against the West Indies and Sri Lanka before heading
to the World Cup in the Caribbean.
