Petronella
sings ‘Oba Nisa’
Petronella Fernando released her second DVD ‘Oba
Nisa’ ( Because of You ) last week at the Lionel Wend Theater,
Colombo 7.
Petronella Fernando who is a old girl of Good
Sheppherd Convent Kotahena is former Sri Lankan athlete, netball
and basket ball player having been the vice captain of the national
team.

She is presently with the United Nations and was
the PA to Dr Jayantha Dhanapala when he was the Under Secretary
General. Petronella who left Sri Lanka almost 17 years ago is a
frequent visitor to Sri Lanka.
She has been promoting Sri Lankan Music and culture
in the USA. Now she is in Sri Lanka to release her second album
that will contain 17 songs and her first DVD that will contain 13
visuals. She released her first album Punchi Kumariye in the year
2003.
She is grateful to Rohana Weerasinghe,Neela Wickramasinghe,
Jagath Wickramasinghe, Upali Kannangara, Dr Ajantha Ranasinghe,
Late Stanley Pieris, Earnie Pieris, Rev Fr Sriyananda Fernando,
Saman Chandranath Weerasinghe,Deshanjali Wicramasinghe, Gamini Perera,
Senath Beddage, Senath Wickramasinghe, and Gamini Senaratne for
the melodies, lyrics and direction.
Chandana Wickramasinghe has been extremely helpful
in providing his talented dancers. Petronella sang at the International
Music Festivals in London and Manchester in 2005. Her song "hope
for healing" was selected as the theme song for the first commemoration
of tsunami organized by the Tourist Board. She was also invited
by the Sri Lanka Tourist Board to perform at the recently conShe
is a member of the United Nations International Choir and will also
sing two songs in Indonesian and English.
The event was held on Sunday 9 July at the Lionel
Wendt Theatre . First lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa was at the ceremony
as the Chief Guest and Dr Jayantha Dhanapala was the Guest of Honour.
