Controversy over registered Medical Universities
With reference to a picture story appearing in
The Sunday Times FT2 section on July 2 referring to a banner by
the Pathe Academy advertising medical degree courses to Belarus
University, the Academy says they have accreditation with the Sri
Lanka Medical Council.
“The university which is advertised, Belarus
(Byelorussia) is a recognised medical university by the Sri Lanka
Medical Council and World Health Organisation,” said a letter
to The Sunday Times by Pathe Academy through its lawyer Roland de
Silva Munasinghe. Mr Munasinghe said the news item and picture was
thus misleading in saying the Belarus University is not registered
with the council.
Business Editor says: There is no Belarus University
as confirmed by the Council. Mr Munasinghe has sent us council registration
of a “Vitebsk Medical Institute” in Belarus –
which is confirmed by the Council – but not of Belarus University.
It is the banner – and not the article – that is misleading
the public.
