Meedin
kept them feeding
By Shamseer Jaleel
Peterite fly-half Irfath Meedin was the architect
behind their victory over Wesley in one of the important “A”
division clashes which took place at the Havelock Park last week.
Peterites scored a 19 points (1 Goal, 1 drop Goal
and 3 Penalties) to 8 points (1 Try and 1 Penalty) win after leading
at “Lemons” 10-3. The Wesley side looked promising in
the first ten minutes of the game and faded away without proper
game plan and lack of leadership qualities. They scored through
a Yasas Nonis penalty. Peterites who missed a difficult chance through
Meedin equalized through a fine drop goal by the same player who
enjoyed one of the best games in his school career. He contributed
14 of the 19 points for the Bambalapitiya school.
The second half was completely dominated by the
Peterites when they capitalized on number of mistakes made by the
Wesley players. After Meedin was on target with a 30-metre penalty
Wesley struck back through a try by nippy scrum half Samantha Lakshantha.
This was the only scoring done by the Wesley outfit.
With the number of mistakes so high and costly for the Wesley side
Medin converted two more penalties to take an easy victory in the
end by 19-8.
