Cardiac Unit gets new lease of life
The idling Cardiac Complex of the Kandy General
and Teaching Hospital received a new lease of life when Health Minister
Nimal Siripala de Silva formally gifted the 'Angiogram' unit to
the hospital.
This piece of vital equipment cost the government
some Rs. 70 million and another Rs. 300 million is to be spent in
obtaining equipment to commence surgery.
The Government, it is learnt, is to call for tenders
for the purchase of these equipment since the existing ones cannot
be used, having been idle for many years.
Minister de Silva inspected the equipment and
the operating theatres accompanied by Central Province Governor
Tikiri Kobbekaduwa and Hospital Director Dr. Sam Samarasinghe. The
Minister also laid a foundation stone and unveiled a plaque for
a three storey complex for eight operating theatres, which is to
be built at a cost of Rs. 200 million. The third floor would be
directly attached to the Cancer Wards of the Hospital as the Ward
is fast becoming the most sought after in the region.
