Drums of discredit silenced?

The Kandy Mayor cancelled permission granted earlier to an individual to introduce a special drum for the world famous Esala perahera this week, as it was found out that the idea behind the move was to discredit Ven. Niyangoda Vijithasiri Anunayake Thera and the former Diyawadana Nilame.

Permission was said to have been obtained after misleading Council officials and Mayor L.B. Aluvihare has taken the matter up with the Kandy DIG and SSP, requesting them to initiate legal action against the perpetrator. Meanwhile, the Mayor had apologised to the two parties concerned.

The individual concerned had obtained the required application for permission via an organisation styled Samagi Gunadaham Sanwardana Padanama and was to carry out the campaign on the fifth night of the Perahera.
