Pre-schooler dies after fall from chair
The Kandy Coroner holding the inquest into the
death of a four-year-old child of a Pre-school said that the teachers
should be more vigilant of the children under their care as they
were of a playful age.
Coroner and Attorney-at-Law M.G. Piyatilleke added
that it was preposterous to have one teacher, the owner and her
assistant to care for 35 children, when at least four teachers should
have been in the Pre-school.
The victim, identified as R.D. Karunasena was
attending a pre-school at the Udispattu Cooperative Hall.
The teacher, 35-year-old Anomi N. Ekanayake, said
around 10 am during the tea break two children who were playing
had fallen off a chair. One child had been hit on her head. Immediately,
she sent word to the mother and the child was taken home as she
had vomitted at school.
The dead child’s mother giving evidence
said that the child had vomitted at home too and she was taken to
hospital where she died. She said that she does not suspect foul
play.
Teldeniya Police led evidence.
