Siemens supports University of Moratuwa
Siemens, the global leader in electrical and electronics
engineering, recently donated industrial automation equipments to
the University of Moratuwa and supported them to set up the Mechatronics
system laboratory. The total donation amounted to Rs 2 million.
The company said that during the recent visit
of J. Schubert, Managing Director, Siemens Ltd. to Colombo city,
Siemens formally handed over the working models to be used in the
Mechatronics System Laboratory to the University of Moratuwa (UoM)
in the presence of its Vice Chancellor Prof Malik Ranasinhe, faculty
members and student representatives.
Siemens has provided necessary hardware and application
support to the Mechatronics department to equip their laboratory
with models depicting various applications on ‘Industrial
automation’.
Under the supervision of its faculty, the students
of the Mechtronics department have developed these unique concept
models in coordination with Siemens and its system house for Automation
and Drives in Sri Lanka, M/s Nikini Automation. The 10 models featured
in the laboratory explain to students how automation could be used
in industry, thus triggering their thought process and helping them
understand the concepts better. Siemens also deputed experts from
its training institute to help fine tune the courseware and check
if the applications provided the desired learning outputs.
