Groovy vibes from CharlesMark

By Marisa de Silva

Eight years together and still going strong, the versatile and talented duo CharlesMark embark on their second solo performance together at the Bishop’s College Auditorium on August 8, at 7.30 p.m.

Billed to perform many of their popular ballads, fusion and alternative rock music, Bertram Charles and Rukshan Mark – the musical banker and music composer cum producer, respectively, will take your breath away!

Catchy Sinhala-English mixes like “Deshaya” caught on very quickly with the masses, said Rukshan. At the same time all-time favourites like “Late In The Evening,” “Mandy” and “Unchained Melody” should also have a similar effect on the crowd, and keep them on their feet, grooving to the beat!

Meanwhile both these artistes are also working on their solo albums, individually, as well. Rukshan hopes to celebrate his ten years of writing music with the release of his new album ‘Aadare’ due for release in September. His album will comprise a selection of his best work over the years, said Rukshan. He will also be releasing the video clip for his album at the concert, he adds.

The line-up for CharlesMark too has expanded since their last concert, enabling them to maximise the level of entertainment on offer. With Reza Faiz on drums, Nalin Samath on lead guitar, Iqbal Assan on bass, Shakira Ganegama on keyboards, Billy Fernando on rhythm guitar and Ravibandu Vidyapathi on Sri Lankan drums, the back-up band itself will be something well worth watching!

“We also hope to send a DVD of our performance to a few Sri Lankan run media institutions in Sydney and Melbourne for them to get a feel of the standard of the local music industry, and help to promote our music there,” said Rukshan.

With four international awards (both solo and joint) under their belt; namely, being placed second runner up at ‘Voice of Asia’ in Kazakhstan in 2003, Excellent New Singer Award (won by Rukshan) at the Shanghai Music Festival in China also in 2003, Best Performer Award at ‘Asthana Music Festival’ in Kazakhstan in 2004 and the Universal Talent Award in Prague 2004, CharlesMark has done their country proud time and time again!

Official sponsors for the concert are Sri Lankan Airlines, MTV, YES FM and Ceylon Cold Stores (Cream Soda). Tickets will be available at the Bishop’s College Auditorium and the entrance.

‘CharlesMark in Concert’ is guaranteed to inspire, invigorate and ignite your senses… So come indulge yourself with an evening of pure music to your ears!
