Skal donates 15 houses to tsunami victims
‘Stork Village’ a project sponsored
by the Skal Club of Galway, completed at a cost of approximately
Rs. 10 million and comprising of 15 houses, was handed over recently
to the beneficiaries who were tsunami victims.
Deriving
its name from its location in the hamlet of Kurulam Pokuna in Panama
off Arugam Bay, the construction of this village was a joint initiative
of Skal International Colombo and the PATA Sri Lanka Chapter, undertaken
in the aftermath of the tsunami.Present at the opening ceremony
were Noel Coughlan representing the Skal Club of Galway West, Ven.
Medhankara Thero of the Malwatte Chapter, Jayantha Panabokke, Mohan
Panabokke- Basnayake Nilame of Sri Vishnu Devalaya, Kandy, Ariyadasa
– Divisional Secretary, Lahugala, Chairman of the Provincial
Council, Panama and L. Karunajeewa – Grama Niladari.
