Book on Mount Lavinia - A Governor's Palace'
During the bicentenary celebrations of Mount Lavinia
Hotel, an exciting new coffee table book charting the 200-year history
of the hotel was launched. Entitled, ‘Mount Lavinia - The
Governor's Palace’, this extensive and in depth work provides
a vivid insight from the inception of the house built originally
as the British Governor's residence to its present state as the
Mount Lavinia Hotel.

From its prestigious beginnings in 1806 as the
country residence of Sir Thomas Maitland, the second British Governor
in Ceylon, the book charts the impressive history of the property
and its occupants and captures in the 136 pages details including
the much inspired passion between the former Governor Maitland and
a local dancer named Lovina Aponsuwa.

Isle Publications carried out six years of exhaustive and intensive
research to compile this masterpiece.
The result is an exceptional and authoritative
book on the history of Mount Lavinia Hotel, which is certain to
