Ph.D from prestigious French institute

Priyadarshani Talgaswatte has recently been awarded
a degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) by the prestigious Institute
of Centre D’ etudes Diplomatiques Et Strategiques (Centre
for Diplomatic and Strategic Studies) in Paris, France under the
auspices of the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Internationales (School
for Higher Studies on International Relations) for her doctoral
thesis ‘Impact of ISO 9000 Certification on Internal Improvements
and External Benefits to the Sri Lankan Industry’. Ecole Des
Hautes Etudes Internationales is a member of the Academic Council
of the United Nations Systems. The Ph.D has been awarded to her
with a Magna cum laude (Special mention by the Jury for excellence).
This is the first time that a research work has
been carried out pertaining to ISO 9000 certification in Sri Lanka.
Dr. Talgaswatte holds a Bachelor’s Degree
in Biological Science and two Masters Degrees in Biology and Management
respectively from the University of Sri Jayawardenapura. She has
also attended several training programmes locally, as well as overseas,
such as in the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, UK, Hong Kong, Iran
and in India in the field of Total Quality Management.
She is a certified Lead Auditor for ISO 9000 Quality
Management Systems, of the International Registry of Certified Auditors
in United Kingdom (IRCA-UK), a Lead Auditor for ISO 22000 Food Safety
Management Systems, and also an Auditor for ISO 14000 Environmental
Management Systems. Dr. Talgaswatte has been attached to the Sri
Lanka Standards Institution over the last 25 years and currently
holds the position of Director (Training). She is an old girl of
Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo.
Hostage-survivor on lecture tour
Yvonne Ridley, internationally-famed BBC and CNN
journalist, who was held hostage by the Taleban in Afghanistan on
the eve of a military strike on that country by the United States
in 2001, will be in Sri Lanka on a lecture tour from August 28 to
September 3. Sponsored by the Centre for Islamic Studies in Colombo,
her first lecture will be held on August 28 at the BMICH at 7 p.m.
followed by another on September 3 at 4 p.m.
