A heavy downpour around 10.30 a.m. brought to an
end any hopes of a resumption of the match that was also stalled
due to rain on Friday. When rain halted the game on Friday, India
winning the toss were 11 for no loss in 3.4 overs of batting with
captain Rahul Dravid on nine and Sachin Tendulkar, returning to
international cricket after five months, on two.The Sri Lanka manager
Michael Tissera speaking to The Sunday Times after the game said
“Indeed it is frustrating, but what can one do against the
weather? Any the Lankan team is upbeat and we are waiting in hope
at least tomorrow’s game will come off”.
“It is obviously not the ideal situation,”
The Indian skipper Rahul Dravid was quoted on AFP. “It is
frustrating sitting in hotel rooms with nothing to do but one really
does not have control over the weather. “We are doing our
best to stay match-fit by spending time in the gym and the pool
but everyone wants cricket to be played.” The Indian team
has played just one practice match since their arrival nine days
ago.
