Snug in the heart of the village of Omatta in Agalawatte, atop a little hill, Omatta Villas is a quaint little haven, just over an hour’s drive from Colombo. Recently opened, it is ideal for the weary in search of the perfect hideaway away from the hustle and bustle of the city, a family or bunch of friends looking for a fun weekend out or even romantic honeymooners wanting a peaceful place all to themselves…

The three secluded villas are on the hill, surrounded by lush paddy fields, rubber estates and cinnamon plantations. Comfortably furnished and decorated simply using local artefacts, different colour schemes in every room give each villa its own character. A king-sized bed and en suite shower with an amazing skylight offers a direct view of the sky above, keeping you well in tune with nature at all times.

Managed by Britisher Philip Goodstein, Omatta Villas is a picture of minimalistic charm. Each of the villas comes with a private balcony and a view to die for (in a manner of speaking of course!) This could be the ideal setting to curl up with a good book, enjoy a scrumptious breakfast overlooking the shades of green, or even perfect for a romantic candlelit dinner for two under the stars!

The rice and curry menu continues to evolve throughout the year as everything that winds up on your plate is home-grown in and around the area, so it will always depend on what fresh organic vegetables and fruits are in season at the time. Meal times are thus a pleasant surprise at Omatta Villas! The budding micro tea plantation and the mini-orchard cum vegetable patch cum herb garden at the foot of the hill, all add to the ambience of the place.

Strolling through the village to take in nature at its best is greatly encouraged, and there are also bikes available on hire for the more energetic.

One of Omatta Villas’ biggest attractions is that it’s only rented out to one group at a time, so guests are guaranteed absolute privacy.
