Rajans are confident this time
Dharmaraja’s captain, fourth year all rounder
Rukshan Suriyarachchi is positively upbeat and brimming with confidence
about his team’s chances in the 2006/07 Lemonade Trophy tournament.
“I think my team is capable of winning the Lemonade Trophy”
he says.

Rukshan was reasonably successful last season scoring
over 450 runs and capturing just over thirty wickets with his off
breaks. He reserved his best for the centenary big match against
Kingswood where he made an attractive 113 and had a haul of 5/47
in the Kingswood innings.
The vice captain will be either Tharindu Perera,
a left arm spinner, or Samitha Rajapakse a right arm leggie Perera,
who grabbed 40 wickets last season and is a very agile fielder too.
A key player in the side is left hander Chandimal
Ratnayake who made a hundred against Zahira last season. He also
opens the attack with his medium pace. Ratnayake is presently skippering
the under 17 side in the second round.
Small in stature, fairly big in deeds. That about sums up wicket
keeper batsman Bhuvaneka Ekanayake. Neat and agile behind the stumps,
he is an attacking player.
He made an enterprising half century in the big
match. Much is expected if Thilina Batangala, a left hand bat and
a right arm off cutter. Another medium pacer Harsha Udara is better
known as a hard-hitting bat. Both these players are expected to
bolster the middle-order.
Kumara Ambagaspitiya, a left handed opener, made
moderate contributions last year, but more runs are expected from
him this time round. His partner, in all probability will be the
captain of the under fifteen side Ramesh Bandara, a right hander
and a left arm spinner. – AK
