Rajapaksa meets various economic cluster groups
President Mahinda Rajapaksa has, in recent weeks,
been meeting heads and members of many cluster groups of the National
Council for Economic Development (NCED) and discussing issues ranging
from tourism, tea to apparel. Officials said the President had discussed
future plans with cluster groups involved in tourism, tea, exports,
apparel, small and medium industries, construction and others.
The cluster groups have been discussing their
‘way forward’ plans with the apparel sector –
as an example – explaining how the industry is positioned
to achieve a $4.5 billion turnover in coming years from $2l.9 billion
in 2005 and an estimated $3.1 billion this year.
