Virtusa invests in the future
US-based Virtusa Corporation’s main corporate
social responsibility (CSR) initiative is in supporting education.
The company said ‘Virtusans’ (its
staff) at the Advanced Technology Centre in Colombo have maintained
close relations with academia throughout its 10 years of operation.
Virtusa’s Campus Reach Initiative focuses
on working with numerous universities and higher education institutes
to nurture future generations of IT professionals and to enhance
the standard of IT education across the academic world, the company
said in a statement.
The Campus Reach Initiative contributes to many
aspects of IT education development in Sri Lanka, driving both the
quality and quantity of IT skills supply in the country. Among key
activities are student mentoring, lecturing and providing industry
insight through curriculum direction. Through student mentoring
and lecturing, the company enhances the quality of IT curriculum
content by introducing industry concepts to students.
The initiative is steered by a team of enthusiastic
volunteer Virtusans. According to Chandika Mendis, Chief Software
Architect in Colombo and current leader of the Campus Reach Initiative,
“We have made significant impact across the board with our
IT education initiatives, all thanks to the many enthusiastic and
energetic Virtusans who have really lived up to the Virtusan spirit
and contributed their time and energy to these activities.”
