Asia Pacific University, Japan ideal for Lankan students
More than 50 Sri Lankan students are presently
studying at the Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) in Japan.
The APU is one of Asia’s most cosmopolitan
universities – with over half of its student body comprising
international students representing over 75 countries and regions
of the world. As the most culturally diverse university in Japan,
APU is focused on international education, in centering particular
on students from the Asia Pacific region.
Established in 2000, the university has geared
itself to fulfilling the educational needs of 21st century Asia
– formulating its courses to suit Asia’s resurgence
as a global player and teaching primarily in English and Japanese.
APU fosters interdisciplinary research focused
specifically on the Asia Pacific region.
An APU statement said the Sri Lankans students
have adjusted with ease to the multicultural environment and the
relevant and focused academic activities have exposed them to an
international standard education within an Asian setting that appreciates
the values and heritage of the region’s many cultures.
The APU is headed by Sri Lankan-born Monte Cassim,
who says “The establishment of the APU was based on the concept
of nurturing human resources for the future of the multilingual,
multicultural region of the Asia Pacific.
