‘Utuvan Kande Saradiel’ : An epic hits
ITN on Sunday
‘Utuvan Kande Saradiel’, the much anticipated
epic teledrama about the daring folk hero of the 19th century, begins
telecast on Sunday, September 10 on the Independent Television Network
(ITN).
The 30-episode series will be telecast at 8.15
p.m. every Sunday, providing viewers with an action filled glimpse
with the life of ‘Sri Lanka's Robin Hood’.
The star-studded cast led by Ravindra Roshan (Saradiel)
includes Jayalath Manoratne, Champa Sriyani, Tissa Abeysekera, Sathischandra
Edirisinghe, Jagath Beneragama, Janak Premalal, W. Jayasiri, Indika
Upamali, Umayangana Wickramasinghe, Udeni Chandrasiri and several
other accomplished actors in support roles.
Television viewers will be treated to many scenic
and historic locations such as 'Saradiel's seat' off Colombo-Kandy
Road at Kegalle and its environs, Kalthota in Balangoda and others
as the series unfolds. It is based on historical facts and was filmed
at locations where Saradiel was born and bred, making the story
more believable and interesting.
‘Sri Lankan history and culture has gone
through many cataclysmic phases under foreign rule’ said Director
Sudath Rohana. ‘Our objective is to give an insight into one
historical period in Sri Lanka by bringing to life the character
of Saradiel’ he added.
The teledrama is sponsored by Swadeshi Industrial
Works Ltd., Sri Lanka's pioneer herbal-based personal care manufacturer
and owner of the popular brands Khomba, Khomba Baby, Rani Sandalwood
and Rani White Sandal.
Swaseshi has previously sponsored 'Bopath Sakkiya'
a teledrama by Sathischandra Edirisinghe, 'Ambu Daruwo' by Sudath
Rohana and the popular 'Diyaketa Pahana' by Asoka Handagama.
