Emerald
– first Sri Lankan shirt to get ISO 9001 –
2000
Sri Lanka’s very own Emerald
shirt has achieved the unique distinction of becoming
the first ever Sri Lankan shirt to obtain ISO 9001 –
2000 quality standards, the company said last week

This certificate was awarded by the
Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) which conducted
audits on the processes ranging from the selection of
suppliers of raw material to the distribution of goods
to the market, covering the entire process including
the human resource. SLSI also audited safety standards
of employees and the hygienic conditions and facilities
of the work place etc. From the marketing of Japanese-made
shirts in Sri Lanka, in 1956, Emerald has recorded commendable
achievements during the past 50 years in the domestic
market.
