“The Schools Invitation Lemonade
trophy Six-a-Side tournament was discussed during the
tenure of Prof. Mahroof Ismail, President of the Old
Wesleyites Sports Club in 1992. It was mooted by Eric
Gauder” said Rohan Perera, the President of the
OWSC. Since then it has gone from strength to strength
thanks to Ceylon Cold Stores.
The tournament will be confined to
24 teams on a first come first served basis, and will
be monitored by a 3-member technical Committee.
This 2-day cricket fiesta which will
be held from September 30, to October 1 will be telecast
live on Rupavahini and Channel Eye
Neighbours Nalanda College has been
dominating this tournament since its inception. They
have won in 1996, 1998, 2000, 2004, 2005 and is now
on a hat-trick. Royal won in 1993. In year 2003 De Mazenod
College Kandana led by Sri Lanka’s hostile bowling
allrounder Dilhara Fernando won it. Kalutara Vidyalaya
– 1994, Prince of Wales Moratuwa (1997) St. Joseph’s
Darley Road (1999). Thurstan College (1995), Newcomers
Lumbini College turned tables in 2002.
The draw will be held on Sept. 22
(Friday at 6 p.m.)
The briefing was chaired by Rohan
Perera. In association with MAP Fernando Sudath Kannangara
(Treasurer), Darshan Liyanage (Sports Co-ordinator)
all from (OWSC) Ranjith Edirisinghe, Amila Silva (Sales
Manager), Upendra Gunawardena, (Product Manager), Nalin
Jayasuriya and Amal Gajamange (Media Manager) represented
CCS.
