AMRC
to rev-up at Katukurunda today
The much looked forward motor racing
event the Speed Championship 2005 organized by the Asian
Motor Racing Club (AMRC) which was scheduled to be concluded
last year but was postponed due to the non availability
of the Pannala International racing track where the
first three of the four rounds were held, will come
to an end with the final round to be held at the Katukurunda
racing track today.
The speed championship commenced in
May last year and with AMRC having made a name for itself
after conducting in what could be termed as the most
successful motor racing events, being hailed and praised
by most of the participants and with a superb track
record today’s event too promises to be a block
buster when Speed@Katu gets under starters orders sharp
at 1.00 p.m.
Due to the security situation of the
country the Air Force commanding officer and his team
have been reluctantly forced to take tough decisions.
Unlike on previous occasions the security is expected
to be thorough and tight in order to ensure that the
event takes place unhindered. They will apply the rules
strictly and regret if anyone is inconvenienced due
to this.
Nevertheless this will not prevent
the cream of Sri Lanka’s top drivers from giving
of their best. With this being a crucial one for all
those who are participating the spectators will be given
their money’s worth with leaders of the respective
categories of the seven major events fighting hard to
maintain their supremacy and emerge as the champion.
With drivers in the calibre of Aravinda
Premadasa, Dinesh Deheragoda, Rizvi Farook, Ajith Hemachandra,
Dinesh Jayawardena, Dilshan Bandaranayake, Chaminda
Weerasooriya, Dilshard Hamdoon Sajjard Zuhair, Siddi
Farook, S.A. Duminda, Pasindu Peiris and Shehara Jayawardena
along with Romani de Silva and Ravi Mayadunne in the
saddle, it’s definitely going to be a day to remember.
With title sponsors CIC and Nexa Autocolor
along with co sponsors Suntel and Mobil have got together
to make this finale a successful and a memorable event.
It will culminate with a colourful award ceremony due
to be held on September 16 at the AMRC Speed Drome in
Battaramulla where the winners of each category will
receive a trophy and a cash award of Rs. 100,000/-.
Tickets for the Speed@Katu are priced at Rs. 50/- (open
stands) and Rs. 250/- (grand stand).-MSA
