The much looked forward motor racing event the Speed Championship 2005 organized by the Asian Motor Racing Club (AMRC) which was scheduled to be concluded last year but was postponed due to the non availability of the Pannala International racing track where the first three of the four rounds were held, will come to an end with the final round to be held at the Katukurunda racing track today.

The speed championship commenced in May last year and with AMRC having made a name for itself after conducting in what could be termed as the most successful motor racing events, being hailed and praised by most of the participants and with a superb track record today’s event too promises to be a block buster when Speed@Katu gets under starters orders sharp at 1.00 p.m.

Due to the security situation of the country the Air Force commanding officer and his team have been reluctantly forced to take tough decisions. Unlike on previous occasions the security is expected to be thorough and tight in order to ensure that the event takes place unhindered. They will apply the rules strictly and regret if anyone is inconvenienced due to this.

Nevertheless this will not prevent the cream of Sri Lanka’s top drivers from giving of their best. With this being a crucial one for all those who are participating the spectators will be given their money’s worth with leaders of the respective categories of the seven major events fighting hard to maintain their supremacy and emerge as the champion.

With drivers in the calibre of Aravinda Premadasa, Dinesh Deheragoda, Rizvi Farook, Ajith Hemachandra, Dinesh Jayawardena, Dilshan Bandaranayake, Chaminda Weerasooriya, Dilshard Hamdoon Sajjard Zuhair, Siddi Farook, S.A. Duminda, Pasindu Peiris and Shehara Jayawardena along with Romani de Silva and Ravi Mayadunne in the saddle, it’s definitely going to be a day to remember.

With title sponsors CIC and Nexa Autocolor along with co sponsors Suntel and Mobil have got together to make this finale a successful and a memorable event. It will culminate with a colourful award ceremony due to be held on September 16 at the AMRC Speed Drome in Battaramulla where the winners of each category will receive a trophy and a cash award of Rs. 100,000/-. Tickets for the Speed@Katu are priced at Rs. 50/- (open stands) and Rs. 250/- (grand stand).-MSA
