External students complete SriLankan’s airline training course

The first two groups of external students successfully completed SriLankan Airlines’ Ticketing & Business Foundation Programme recently.

Participants at the passing out ceremony of Batch 2 of the Airline Ticketing & Business Foundation Course with Head of Human Resources, Sunil Dissanayake.

The 8-week programme included classroom training in Katunayake and 10 days of on-the-job training at SriLankan's ticket office at the WorldTrade Centre, Reservations Department, and Skywards. The programme covered both Basic Fares & Ticketing, and soft skills that would be useful for participants in many types of careers. Students who had responded to newspaper advertisements with theintention of embarking on careers in commercial aviation, were selected through an interview process to ensure that they had the aptitude for the programme, the airline said.

"This programme provided a very useful service to youngsters who want to learn appropriate skills to enter the aviation and travel industries, and also obtain a recognized qualification," said Chinthaka Kulatilleke, Training Manager.

Although the airline did not guarantee employment for participants of the programme, 10 of them have since been recruited by SriLankan Airlines.
