BPA urges sending essential food items to affected people

The Business for Peace Alliance (BPA), a network of regional business chambers throughout Sri Lanka, has urged the authorities to facilitate the provision of essential food items to people in the regions directly affected by the violent conflict.

H. Wijeyanandana, Chairman, BPA, said member chambers in Killinochchi and Mullaitivu have requested the BPA to follow up with relevant authorities to facilitate the provision of essential food items to the people in these two districts. “We are therefore deeply concerned about this request made by our colleagues the context of the escalating humanitarian crisis,” he said. He said people in Kilinochchi and Mullativu are facing severe hardships as a result of lack of basic food items and other essential supplies. The BPA says transport required for this purpose can be arranged by the members of the respective Chambers of Commerce who are engaged in business in these two districts in collaboration with the relevant Government Agents.
