Buddha Jayanthi Celebrations
The All Ceylon Women's Buddhist Congress
has organized a series of programmes this year to commemorate
the 2550 Buddha Jayanthi.
A Bakthi Gee Contest among Colombo
schools was held recently and the awards presentation
is to be held at the Navarangahala, Thurstan Road, Colombo
7 at 3.00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 27. Film Director,
Sumithra Peiris will grace the occasion as the Chief
Guest.
With my Feet in Kandy
"With my Feet" a dance performance
by Naomi Rajaratnam's Dance School will be held in Kandy
at the Trinity College Hall on October 1. The show is
organized by the Inner Wheel of Kandy Metropolitan (District
222). The two-hour show is for a worthy cause, that
of street children.
"Blossoms of Hope", a home
for the street children being planned by the Inner Wheel
Club members aims to rehabilitate street children who
have had no proper parental care. There will also be
day care facilities for infants.
Annual Good News Fair
The annual Good News Fair organised
by the Ceylon Bible Society will be held on Saturday,
September 30 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Dutch Reformed
Church, Wellawatte.
There will be bargains galore with
stalls selling books, gift items, sweets, vegetables,
clothes etc. The chief guests will be Mr and Mrs C.
Schafter.
Josephian Confuoro
'Josephian Confuoro', a band display
featuring the bands of ten leading Colombo schools organized
by St. Joseph's College will be held at the school sports
complex on September 30 at 3 p.m.
St. Joseph's, St. Peter's, St. Benedicts',
Holy Family Convent, Our Lady of Victory, Musaeus College,
Sirimavo Bandaranaike, Loyola and St. Sebastian's are
the bands taking part.
The event has been organized under
the patronage of Rector Rev. Fr. Sylvester Ranasinghe
and supervised by Deputy Rector Rev. Fr. Sudath Gunaratne,
teacher- in-charge Mrs Shanthi Heethawakaarachchi and
band instructor Ranjith Nawaratna.
