Seva Vanitha Unit of the SLAF launches website

The Seva Vanitha Unit (SVU) of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) launched its website (www.airforce.lk/sevavanitha) on Saturday, September 16 at a special ceremony at the SLAF base in Katunayake.

In a message to mark the occasion, SVU President Ms. Nelun Goonetileke said the SVU would mobilize all possible forces to create a socially safer environment for the families of those who sacrificed their precious lives or became permanent victims to save the nation.

Ms. Goonetileke also said the SVU would, wherever possible, cater to the needs of those families of serving members. The SVU has launched 100 scholarships for the needy children of Air Force personnel and is providing land or housing for family members of those killed in action (KIA), missing in action (MIA) and wounded in action (WIA).

"The loved ones of those who sacrificed their precious lives and others who have become permanent victims … crave for love and care… We should therefore, as members of the SVU, invariably become a part and parcel of creating a better tomorrow for them," said Ms. Goonetileke.

The future projects include uplifting of SLAF pre-schools and primary schools to international standards, providing housing loans and donations for differently-abled service and civil personnel for construction/improvements of their houses and providing financial support and equipment for self-employment of the wounded.

The broad objective of the SVU is to alleviate hardships faced by families of deceased and injured SLAF personnel, through dedicated and organized involvement of its members who are spouses of serving personnel.
