A trip to Nuwara Eliya

On July 28, I got up and had a bath. I was extremely excited because my family and I were going on a trip. Our grandparents arrived at our gate. My grandparents helped my mother to pack up the food. After that we got into the car and drove off.

On the way we had our breakfast and while going through mountain roads, we saw beautiful scenery and grass as if the people had put a green carpet.

The first city we came to, was Kandy. We stayed in a hotel called Hill Top. We met our grandfather's friend. His name is Mr. Cyril Perera. He is the General Manager of the hotel. After that my sister, my father and my grandfather and I went for a swim. The next day we continued our journey. On the way we saw the Victoria and Randenigala Reservoirs. The next city we came across was Ella. We stayed in a hotel called the Grand Ella Motel. When it was dark, we saw a train and it looked like a golden caterpillar going among the hills.

The following morning we went to the railway station. The train came at 10.15am. We went from Ella to Bandarawela. The last city we came to was, Nuwara Eliya. We saw how they grow vegetables, fruits and plants.

Next we went to the boat club and my sister and I went on a pony ride and also my father and I went boat paddling. After that we continued our journey back home.

On the way we saw Devon Falls and St. Clair's Falls. We had our tea at the St. Clair's Tea Centre.

By the time we reached home, we were exhausted. I had a wonderful time and this is a trip I will never forget.

The place where I worship

The place where I worship is a church. It is the Jampettah Methodist Church. The service is held on Sunday at 8am. During service time, the church is full. There is an alter in our church. The alter is decorated with flowers. For special occasions the members of the church have their celebrations in the church. Weddings, Anniversaries, Palm Sunday Services, Easter Services and Christmas Services are held in a special way. For Christmas, a Christmas tree is decorated in the church and the church looks beautiful with decorations and illuminations.

With the alter, there is a pulpit and benches for the congregation.

Jampettah Methodist Church, is one hundred and thirty years old. After Sunday Service we used to go to Sunday school. Many pastors have served in our church. I like to go to my church

A night of fire

As I sit on the hill,
Gazing up at the silent sky,
A soft wind blows the leaves,
Off the tamarind tree.
The stars seem like diamonds,
As the moon seems,
To be much closer to Earth.

The moonlight gleams,
Over the shadowy town.
The streets look like,
Blue and black ribbons.
The people wait patiently,
For the dawn of the New Year.

All at once, stillness breaks,
As the roaring and
crackling,
Of the fireworks begin.
The moon seems to fade with the blaze,
As the night was set on fire,
And I'm still on the hill,
Alone…

Words of a beggar

Big large houses can be seen
Middle size houses an be seen
Small little shanties can be seen
This is my town you can see

Rich big people can be seen
Middle size people can be seen
Small thin beggars can be seen
This is my town you can see

Beautiful flowers in big large houses
Big large trees in middles size houses
Small little plants in shanty houses
This is my town you can see.

This is my town you can see
I don't know what to say
So now I am stopping
Keep in mind that beggar is talking

My trip to Millennium Park

One day, during my holiday time I went to Millennium Park near the Town Hall, in Colombo. I went with my parents, my brother Narayanan, who is five years old and my Aunty Vijitha.

First we went to the 4 D Section. It was unimaginable. There were four seats in a row. You will feel as if you were in the drivers' seat of a vehicle. The seat actually moves. The wind strikes your face. You even feel the grass and water on the way. Thanks to modern technology we get a chance of enjoying all this. When it started to rain we went to play video games. They were very interesting. Afters sometime my aunty said it was time to go home. We returned home in the same three-wheeler. It was a memorable experience.

The twins

Once there were twins
Who had two swings
They are always playing
And they love to sing

They love to teach
And they always preach
They have two bags
Which are at the bottom of their rags

They wear skirts
Which are like shirts
They go to school
When they are cool

They have bottles
Which are like rattles
They have curls
Which are like whirls

The twins
have two wings
They fly high
Above the sky
