Scouts return
from Himalayan peak climb
Three scouts from the 1st Kandy Dharmaraja
Scout Group were selected to represent Sri Lanka to
climb the Himalayan mountain in Nepal. A yet un-named
mountain in the range was named the Lord Baden Powell
Peak to celebrate the 100th year of Scouting.

The Dharmaraja Scout Group was expected
back in the island this week after completing the climb
with several other scouts from around the world.
Scout Master Ajith Jayasekera had
climbed the Himalayan mountain range over 15 times and
has also led Dharmaraja Scouts on these expeditions.
Chief Commissioner H.S. Weerakoon
handed over the National Flag to the leader of the three-member
contingent headed by Scout Master Ajith Jaysekera before
their departure. Two other President's Scouts, Nalaka
Hapuheena and Chameera Chandrasena accompanied him.

Shantha Madurawe, representatives of the Old Rajans’
Scout Association and the parents were also present.
