CBK meets
UNICEF head in NY
Former President Chandrika Kumaratunga
last week paid a courtesy call on the head of UNICEF,
Ann Veneman in New York, and said she will do her bit
to increase the UN children’s agency's profile
in Asia.
She made the call at the office of
the UN agency when she attended former Heads of Government
summit hosted by former US President Bill Clinton on
the sidelines of the UN General Assembly sessions of
incumbent Heads of Government.
Ms. Veneman thanked Ms. Kumaratunga
for her grand gesture towards UNICEF, but made no offer
of a part-time or full-time job for the former Sri Lankan
President.
UNICEF officials dismissed previous
speculative reports that Ms. Kumaratunga has been offered
the post of South Asian director general of UNICEF,
saying that there was no such post in the agency.
