Dilip to
assist Sabaragamuwa rugby
By Bernie Wijesekera
Dilip Kumar the former Australian
Rugby Union’s Chairman and Bob Dwyer were the
chief guests at the old Wesleyites Sports Club’s
school’s 50th anniversary rugby celebrations,
held last weekend.
The team that caught their eyes was
the Sabaragamuwa Combined Schools team. The team comprised
players from less affluent lads from the district schools
drawn from Eheliyagoda Central, Kegalle, Embilipitiya
etc. They had only one week’s training under provincial
coach Priyantha Gunaratne. No shortage of commitment,
they were leading 7-5 at half time. A minute before
the long whistle lost 10-7 to Dharmaraja.
After the game Kumar said that he
was prepared to help the district coach Priyantha Gunaratne
on developing the game in this area.
