Joseph Vaz
scores a huge 125 in just five overs
By M. Shamil Amit
The 14th OWSC inter-school Lemonade
inter-schools cricket sixes organized by the Old Wesleyites
Sports Club which got underway yesterday at the Campbell
Park saw Joseph Vaz hitting a massive 125 for 2 in their
allotted five overs. The Vazians were in fact aided
by some sloppy bowling by the Lumbini bowlers who gave
away over 40 runs in wides, but it will be recorded
as the highest ever scored by any team in the history
of the tournament.

Isuru Udana of DSS had the honour of
hitting the highest individual score of the day when
he cracked 52 from his team’s score of 64 for
3 against Kingswood which was the first match of the
day.
Meanwhile five teams Joseph Vaz, DSS,
De Mazenod, Kalutara MV, and St Joseph’s have
already advanced to the quarter-finals having won both
their matches they played for the day. Two quarter-finals
matches have been confirmed with DSS meeting De Mazenod
and Kalutara MV vs Joseph Vaz.
Today the proceedings will get underway
at 9.00 a.m. with an interesting clash between defending
champions Nalanda and host Wesley followed by another
two encounters St Peter’s vs St Sebastian’s
and Dharmapala vs President’s Rajagiriya. The
winners of these matches will advance to the quarter-finals.
Defending champs Nalanda who have
won the title for the last two years will be aiming
to make it three in a row but will face stiff opposition
from De Mazenod and host Wesley who have already clinched
sixes titles this year along with St Joseph’s
who are making strong claims for the title.
