Sri Lanka First applauds SLFP-UNP pact

Sri Lanka First, the business-peace organization, last week lauded the efforts of the SLFP and the UNP in setting aside party politics and coming together to form a joint executive system which is the need of the hour for the country.

“We firmly believe that the signing of this historic MOU within the next few days will bring an end to confrontational politics that have been the norm since Sri Lanka’s independence and this will bring about a system of governance which would help bring an end to Sri Lanka’s ethnic conflict. We praise both parties for setting aside opposing political views and displaying the courage and commitment to come together for the greater good of the whole country,” the association said

It said Sri Lanka First since its inception in 2001 has been advocating for the government and the opposition parties to work together putting the country first. More recently Sri Lanka First forged an alliance with the Congress of Religions, Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Organization of Professionals Association and Regional Chambers BPA advocating an accord for National Unity between the SLFP and UNP to work together to find a negotiated solution to the ethnic conflict.

“We continue to call upon the UNP to forge ahead in its support for the current initiative for a much needed southern consensus led by President Mahinda Rajapakse and extend their assistance to bring about an equitable and lasting resolution to the conflict,” it said in a press release.
