39th Quadrangular on October 21 and 22
The annual cricket quadrangular between
the four catholic schools in the island St Peter’s,
St Joseph’s, St Anthony’s and St Benedict’s
will be played on October 21 and 22. The quadrangular
which began in 1963 with the first being hosted by the
Old Benedictines is played in two categories namely
the main quadrangular which is the 39th in the series
and the over 40’s that began in 2002 is in the
fifth year. This year too the Old Benedictines will
be the host and for the first time a basketball tournament
will also be conducted concurrently involving the four
teams.
The tally in the main quadrangular
stands 11 each to Old Bens and Old Joes ten to Old Petes
and nine to Old Antonians while in the over 40’s
category Old Bens are leading having two wins with Old
Petes and Old Antonians one each. The cricket matches
will be played at St Peter’s grounds Bambalapitiya
and St Joseph’s grounds in Darley Road with the
over 40’s being played at the Bloomfield grounds
in Reid Avenue. The basketball matches will be played
at St Benedict’s College basketball courts in
Kotahena.
The cricket final of the main quadrangular
will be played on October 22 at Darley Road which will
be over 50 overs and the over 40’s at Bambalapitiya
which will be a 25 over game. The preliminary matches
and the two finals along with the basketball final will
get underway at 10.00 a.m. on both days.
