Madhu Ganga trolling a huge success

One of the few Angling clubs for resident Anglers in Asia, The Ceylon Sea Anglers Club of China Bay, Trincomalee, recently concluded its 1st “Taru Villas Madhu Ganga Trolling Competition”. This event was the first of its kind held on the picturesque Madu Ganga Estuary which boasts of a rich collection of Barramundi and other fresh water species.

A total of 33 anglers competed for the Taru Villas trophy and the chance to walk away with some great prizes which included Abu Garcia rods and reels.

The event which was sponsored by Taru Villas (www.taruvillas.com) was a resounding success. The results were based on the weight of the fish and list of winners are as follows:

1st Prize: Mrs. Samantha Seneviratne – 13.09 lbs Barramundi (Modha), 2nd Prize: Mr. Gavin Jayasekera – 7.04 lbs Trevally Jack (Paraw), 3rd Prize: Mr. Murad Ismail – 6.14 lbs Barramundi, 4th Prize: Mr. Dickey Delpachitra – 6.03 lbs Barramundi, 5th Prize: Mr. Dorian Gray/Mrs. De Lanerolle – 4.15 lbs Barramundi (each).

The anglers left the docks at 8 am and the competition concluded by 1 p.m. 15 boats searching the estuary for that elusive catch were all rewarded with a great day out.

Having enjoyed the pristine surroundings of the estuary and refreshed often with cans of ‘Red Bull’ energizer drinks which were generously handed out to each angler by the ‘Red Bull’ boat, the competitors all returned delighted.

The CSAC, together with clubs such as Sports Fishing Club of Sri Lanka, have made it their mission to promote the sport of angling in Sri Lanka. Conducting competitions using IGFA (International Game Fishing Association) guidelines, the CSAC regulates sustainable fishing, ensuring that competitors release all fish that are below the sanctioned size in the rules of the competition.
