                | A bird's
story Father Robin is very kind. He woke up early
morning to find some food for the chicks. Mother Robin joined
Father Robin to find food. They searched for bugs, worms and insects
to give their young ones. They went from tree to tree. Father
Robin found a chubby worm. He happily carried it in its beak
to the nest. Inside the nest there were three little
chicks and they were very hungry. When they saw Father Robin,
they opened their huge, pink mouths for food. Then Father Robin tore the worm into three
pieces and gave each of them. Father Robin is very happy now. Bhagya Pandithakorelege (8 years)

                | How we celebrate
Teacher's Day in our school If anyone is born to this world he or she
must have a teacher to become a good citizen. Teachers come
next to our parents. They guide us from wrong to right. They
discover our talents and make us excel not only in studies
but also in other fields. They are like gods. We all must
have their consent to brighten our lives. So we must obey
and respect them. We must make them happy. For this sake, we celebrate a 'Teacher's
Day' in our school on October 6, every year. First a group
of students sing songs of devotion to commemorate the value
of teachers. After that we present bouquets of flowers and
handicraft items as souvenirs. Some students deliver speeches
regarding how we should respect and obey our teachers. Finally we worship and greet our dear teachers,
good health and long life. Bhanuka Kumara (10 years)

                | Watching TV - good or bad? Time is a very precious thing. Time management
is essential to use time efficiently and effectively. Today,
children have a busy lifestyle. They have very little time
for their entertainment. Some children spend most of the time
watching television. Because of this they will not have enough
time for their studies. Spending most of your time with TV
will reduce the time you have for hobbies and extra activities.
To maintain good health, you need regular exercise. Just sitting
and watching television will make you fat and lazy. All family members should sit and talk together
and spend the leisure time. But when you get addicted to the
television you won't have any time to discuss with your family
members. But there are useful and important programmes
for children. We can choose the programmes using the weekly
programme guide issued by the newspapers. Another way is to
make a timetable and work according to that. We mustn't exceed the limits in anything.
Television is a friend if we use it intelligently, but it
may become an enemy of we use it without control. Randula Senarathbandara (13 years)

Motor Show at BMICH I had an opportunity to witness the Motor
Show on October 7, 2006, with my brother, sister and parents.
It was a pleasure to go into the area of this show as it was
decorated with colour lights and other decorations. As we
entered we were delighted to see the line-up of classic cars
like Ford, Morris Minor, Volkswagon, BMW, Benz, Fiat, Jaguar
etc. As we moved on inside we found new model
cars like the BMW 7 Series, which was very beautiful and I
exchanged my views with my brother. The second line-up was Hyundai Jeeps, which
could be used in rough and difficult areas. There were vintage vehicles used by Mr.
Jawaharlal Nehru of India and Mr. Dudly Senanayake of Sri
Lanka. Visitors were really taken up by the set up of this
show and I was able to see photographers capturing photos
from their cameras. We were so glad to meet Uncle Bri and Uncle
Bala who are the veterans of motor vehicles shows and races.
In general it was an evening with lots of
enjoyment with my brother, sister and loving parents. Pratheepan Kaviesh (Grade 5)S. Thomas' College,

                | New start Its never too late to start again Plants bloom better after the rain
Never give up, never fall down.
Get up again, don't sink drawn.
In your directions cold winds may blow. The future is something you never can know
 Take troubles on the chin
 Maybe then you will win.
Never give up for you have the strength .Travel life's road, whatever the length.
The courage, the wisdom, you'll find inside
You have what you need to finish this ride
The sun may not shine bright alwaysObstacles may block you on some days
Don't give up and don't fall apart
You can always make a brand new start
All around you, walls may be thereLife certainly won't always be fair
 Any problem you can understand
When you don't wilt and you don't break
Life is a season with ups and downs Sometimes its laughter, sometimes its frowns
 Suddenly you might lose everything
Then start a new, at the beginning

                | Animals The yak has a coat of warm fur,And the cat can nicely purr,
The elephant tusks are sold for gold,
 Giant tortoises are very old.
When the moon comes out at nightAn owl hunts with all its might,
Then the wolves come and howl,
 Without hearing a bear growl.
The snake gives a hiss that's longAnd the lion for that gives and angry roar,
The vulture flies for food from trees,
From the hive come the busy bees
Two peacocks dance proudly,But elephants stamp loudly,
The parrot repeats things it hears,
And from the trees come the deer.

                | My sister Suha My sister's name is Suha. She will celebrate
her first birthday on December 25. She is fair. She has lots
of toys. She likes dark colours. When she wants a toy she
crawls and takes it. When we sing songs she claps her hands.
Suha looks like a doll sometimes so we call her a dolly. When
she feels sleepy she cries. When my mother is washing her
she likes to be in the water with toys. She splashes the water.
Suha is the youngest in our family. I love my sister. Maiz Munthasir (8 years)
