The winning look for 2006 is the "60's modernism
look". The 60's was an era of drama, romanticism and sensual
glamour. The world's fashion houses have revived and adorned this
vintage look on to the ramps worldwide. The 60's minimalist look
is made cool and sexy.
Flowy
flounces, flares, frills, ruffles and lace trimmings, Victorian
tiers, puffed sleeves, accordion pleats, pintucks, intricate embroidery
and cordwork with wisps of crochet are the rage this season. Boleros
full length and short are very much in vogue this season, so be
a bolero babe… (Best worn with jeans or miniskirts.)
"Elegance with an attitude" celebrating
pretty and delicate feminine details with free flowing silhouettes
– that's the current fashion mood.
Designers the world over have launched captivating
Victorian collections using translucent fabrics such as georgettes,
chiffons and crepes, sometimes incorporating innumerable varieties
of fabrics together into one piece. Flowy and flouncy dresses in
soft floral hues have made a major comeback. Pencil skirts and flared
accordion pleated skirts are also hot this time of year.
The colour palette used to compliment this vintage
look are blacks, whites, grays, and nude colours like cream, ivory
beige and warm jewel colours. Many designers dress their favourite
celebs such as Nicole Kidman and Linsey Lohan in stunning pieces
in black or white or its combinations. So this is the season's hottest
colour contrast. Subtle checks too have emerged with a roar. So
it's a good time to go chic with checks.
Go for the black, white and nude colour combos
with all its flounce and grandeur, in elegant chiffons crepes and
georgettes.
Accessorise the look!
Here too the vintage theme has been elaborated
using classical bead chains, belts and lots of beads. Dull gold
beads and pearls are combined onto long necklaces that fall below
the waist. This highlights your outfit with lots of chains bracelets
and waist belts.
Stay electrified with brilliant flashes of chandelier
earrings which still command a trend.
Varcace's autumn winter 06/07 portrayed an aviation
and space combined supersonic look. Narciso Rodriguez also patronized
this aerospace look by using shiny satins and leather fabrications
to his collection. Hold on to the last year’s "metallic
accessories" and flaunt those metallic hues from bags, belts,
jewelry to shoes. So if it's accessories, be bold – go metallic
with space shiny, underarm bags, purses, belts and even stainless
steel jewellery.
Designer bags such as Prada's latest collection
favours chic but massive sized handbags. There is a fine line between
enjoying fashion and getting compulsive about it. The secret lies
in exercising your choice. The trick in being a true fashionista
is in being true to yourself. You can still have fun with trends
but be sure to flatter your body type/structure and personality.
Use the knowledge on trends but mould them to suite you.
