Under
a new plan for the Kandy district, Kundasale and Pallekele
are to be transformed into a a new administrative city
within the next two years while the present Kandy city
would be preserved in all its antiquity.All the administrative
offices in Kandy as well as the Police Headquarters
and the Bogambara Prisons would be shifted to the Pallekele
area as part of this project. |

Bumper
yields were harvested by cardamom growers in the Kandy
district due to the monsoon. Cardamoms require a cool
climate as found in the hill country, well distributed
rainfall and forest cover. The Knuckles area is perfect
for cardamom growing but is restricted in this region.
New plantations are illegal but old plantations exist
and they flourish due to the ideal conditions. |

Tennis has seen the father and son combination of Bob
and Lleyton Hewitt, the sisters Manuela and Magdalena
Maleeva and the siblings John and Patrick McEnroe.However,
in Kandy, there is something a little more unique. It
may be at district level, but an instance of a father,
mother, daughter and son playing and winning, tennis tournaments
is a rare one indeed. For good measure, we have the daughter
defeating the mother in the singles final! |
