...this new home with a capacity for 36 children
and 4 staff members is an architectural creation of Priyantha Anthony
-a member of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects. The special

Hans Wagener, the territorial senior partner of
PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Germany, recently opened a fully equipped
children’s home and vocational centre at Kosgama and handed
it over to Neetha Ariyaratne General Secretary, Sarvodaya Suwasetha.
Also at the opening ceremony was Frank Brebeck,
a member of the German Leadership Team - who a year earlier laid
the foundation stone for this new complex, a nominee representing
Heidi Broll of Sarvodaya Germany, Lynton Pieris of PwC Germany-
who was the live wire in conceptualising and managing the project,
Yudi Kanagasabai, Chief Executive Officer PwC Colombo.
Aptly named as “PricewaterhouseCoopers Germany
– Daru Sevana,” this new home with a capacity for 36
children and 4 staff members is an architectural creation of Priyantha
Anthony -a member of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects. The
special features of this new home are an infirmary room for use
when the children fall sick, spaces for outdoor games (netball and
badminton) and indoor games (table tennis and other board games).
Comfortable living areas with modern amenities are accompanied by
separate dining and study areas. There is ample space reserved for
home gardening, environmental practices and nature observations.
A modern vocational centre with a fully equipped
computer room, a library, a sewing training centre, a multi media
centre and a conference room will provide training and development
options for the girls.
The fully equipped modern kitchen will also serve
as a centre for cookery training.
In addition, this modern facility is to serve
as a training and development centre initially for other girls attending
the adjoining Kosgama School, and later to be extended to other
village girls of Kosgama. The centre is to be managed by the Sarvodaya
Women’s Movement.
